2006 10 22 Cabinet Install Day 2

More progress on the cabinet installation today. The cabinets along the sink wall were finished in the morning, and the island in the afternoon. The island top was set in place but is not secured. The cabinets on the range wall were started.

The wood island top is from Spekva. There is a cutout in it for a sink at one end and matching cutout for a piece of granite (for hot things) at the other. The rest of the counters will be granite, called "Black Beauty" by Berkeley Mills and their vendor, and Black Exotic by the vendor we are using. This naming difference was almost a serious problem. It is a good thing I had a sample of what I wanted when I went to Maryland to look at slabs. The vendor (Avanti) would have innocently sent the wrong thing to the countertop fabricator if I had not gone to look. The granite will have a honed and not a polished finish. It feels like sanded wood, very smooth.

The gap in the cabinets on the sink wall is where the dishwasher will go, and the tall case to the right of the range is where the refrigerator will go.

I am very impressed with the accuracy and workmanship of the installers.

More tomorrow. I think the countertops will be measured for granite on Tuesday and the appliances will show up on Thursday.
